BOOKS
James Michael Pratt is New York Times and USA Today bestselling fiction and non-fiction author, columnist, and documentary film producer. Called “A master of moral fiction…” by Booklist, his novels filled with history, inspiration, and romance have earned him the accolades of critics. People Magazine billed James’ breakout novel, The Last Valentine (1998-1999) “A return ticket to Bridges of Madison Country territory.” Kirkus Reviews offered, “Pratt’s debut novel tugs at the heartstrings and brings out the hankies and is a natural for television. Fans of The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks will enjoy this book.”
Hallmark Hall of Fame has set the release of the film based upon Pratt’s first novel as a CBS Movie of the Week on January 30th 2011. Inspired by Pratt’s mother retelling of her wait at L.A.’s Union Train Station in 1944 for Pratt’s father, who had been to war for two and one half years, the novel has been a steady favorite since it was first released in 1998. Renamed The Lost Valentine, starring popular actresses Jennifer Love Hewitt and Betty White, the movie depicts a story of war, loss, and the meaning of lasting love.
Of Pratt’s romance-war stories Booklist offered, “Pratt once again presents a tale that goes straight to the heart and brings tears to the eyes.” (The Lighthouse Keeper) Publishers Weekly said of Ticket Home, “Pratt has done his homework with authentic clarity…” and Kirkus Reviews called it, “A heartfelt love story celebrating the Greatest Generation.” Pratt added four more novels and two non-fiction works since Ticket Home, a novel now in screenplay development. Additional published works optioned for film are: Paradise Bay, The Good Heart, and a novel in development, When the Last Leaf Falls.
