AS a MAN THINKETH...In His
Heart
MAGICAL, MYSTERIOUS, INSPIRATIONAL! -

"As
a Man Thinketh In His Heart is a fascinating
continuation of the ideas set forth in James Allen's
classic bestseller, As a Man Thinketh. Mr.
Pratt takes those principles of thought and adds to
it the principles of heart powered thinking. He does
it in such a way that the reader is greatly
entertained while pondering the power of thought and
its relationship to the heart. Whoever reads this
will be infused with not only the desire to change
for the better, but the belief that positive change
is possible."
Lance Andrewsen,
International Businessman
"What
an awesome story! My attention was riveted to the
story so much that I couldn't put it down! I've
already started to feel the changes that come from
reading something so inspirational! Thank you
for writing this and sharing it with me!"

"James, As a Man Thinketh In His Heart is
BRILLIANT! This is a 10+. Everyone who cares about
the human spirit and progressing in a positive way
should read your book! I laughed, and I cried, and
will read it again and again. I will recommend it to
all my friends and associates. Congratulations on
another winner!"
"Except for Og Mandino, I haven't read fiction
authors in many years; and so I was surprised when I
picked up, As a Man Thinketh In His Heart and
couldn't put it down. I read for two straight hours.
This is Og Mandino at his best. Life changing! I
will be recommending your book to everyone I know."

"James Allen planted
the seed and James Pratt 'added upon'. As A Man
Thinketh In His Heart gives today’s reader an
opportunity to think with his heart - while being
entertained - a dual exercise not often successfully
accomplished by today's writers. Mr. Pratt seems to
be making this form of stimulating writing an
engaging habit. What's next?"
"Honey? This is really good! Who wrote this?"

I have read a few hundred books over the years,
including the Pulitzer Prize Winning "Lonesome
Dove". In my mind, "Ticket Home" should win a
Pulitzer as well. Now its time to pass this book
along to others that I know will love it as well.
Thanks Again!-- Michael Riley
Dear Mr. Pratt -- I
first wrote to you when I was a 12 year-old in
middle school to tell you how much The Last
Valentine had affected my way of thinking about love
and life. I'm now at Boston College and will
be graduating next year. I see that The Last
Valentine will finally be made into a movie. I just
wanted to write and congratulate you. I cannot wait
for the movie to air! Grace Huang
"As a big Nicholas Sparks fan I posted a message on a board asking for author suggestions of similar stories. Your name was the response I received. I just finished The Lighthouse Keeper a few moments ago! I am still tearing up at what a great story that was. Thank you for the hours of enjoyment added to my life. I look forward to reading your other three books." Jennifer Goldstein
Mr. Pratt – I am a 50 year old male and Viet Nam Veteran. I just read and enjoyed your book Paradise Bay. The facts of history of that era seemed correct. Very nice story and was glad to see everybody win. Thanks for the excellent escape from the Atlanta, Ga traffic to a sweet story in Paradise Bay, CA.

Dear Mr. Pratt, This
is basically a thank you note. I love to read but
lately I haven't found any heart in any books
until a friend sent me "Paradise Bay." Now,
that's a story with warmth, heart and love.
I'm going to find "Ticket Home" and "The Lighthouse
Keeper." Thanks and keep writing! Carol Wilk
"I just felt compelled to drop a line and tell you how much I enjoyed your books. In the past month I completed The Lighthouse Keeper and The Last Valentine. Loved both books so much I found myself at Borders Books purchasing Ticket Home on the way home the very same day I finished The Last Valentine. Funny thing is, I never had any interest in the WWII era, but these books just drew me in didn't let go! Working on a new book? I can assure you I will be at the bookstore on the very same day it is released! Wendy Pyle
“I am an avid reader who lauds outstanding writers (especially you, Nicholas Sparks, Richard Paul Evans, Francine Rivers, and Jan Karon) to my small circle of friends, but I have been remiss in letting the authors know. This is my first letter in an attempt to correct that. I do consider you a blessing to readers and humanity as you personify (as your dedication to your uncles expressed) ‘love, kindness, and the gentle nature of true manhood.’…While too many authors glorify men of low principles, the men in your books are a tribute to fine men and a rare example to those who are unaware of these qualities…You made an emotional impact of the horror of battle while sparing your readers many gory details…I hope that you will be able to inspire us with many more books. However, if you stop with the three already published, you have made a great contribution to mankind.” --Betty Boynton

Robinson military, espionage-action-adventure novels I usually read. Being a former lighthouse technician, and instructor of automated lighthouse maintenance for the Coast Guard, I have a special fondness for lighthouses. I was surprised to find so much 'action' in the story. You did an outstanding job of capturing my interest from cover to cover. I will definitely recommend this book to friends and family. Dear Mr. Pratt: "I have recently 'discovered' you through reading Ticket Home from Doubleday Book Club. I thoroughly enjoyed it and absolutely loved the love story. I particularly enjoyed the fact that you depict such great love stories without all the sex so prevalent today in books, and while we know it is there, you leave it to our imagination much like the movies of the forties. It is so refreshing and I don't know when I've enjoyed a book more.
Dear Sir – I just recently purchased a copy of your novel, Ticket Home. I am impressed unbelievably with your ability to tell a story, make it believable with heartfelt emotion and moral anchors. I think that the line… ‘A true lighthouse keeper shines his beam bright on the one he loves forever, never lettin’ go of his search for her love in return, and then, the love is better than it was in the beginning...’ is the true essence of LOVE itself that we all search for.” --Jim Kurack
“I will probably read any book that you write in the future. “I am now a brand new reader of your work. I am now sorry to say since college days (ended in 1991) I have not read many novels by male writers…I saw your novel read the cover and fell in love. I finished your wonderful novel in one day. The O Banyon’s men were like old friends by the time I finished I felt their happiness and their pain. ( The Lighthouse Keeper) thank you for bringing me joy. Please continue to touch my heart…I am getting more of your books and I have already given your novel to a friend (female) she gave it to a friend (male) after she read it also in one setting.” --Patricia Ann Tingle
“I just want to let you know that I just finished your third book, the Ticket Home. Your books are so wonderful. I enjoy reading them. The Last Valentine I read in one day and cried through the whole book. I judge a book sometimes by how hard I cry and your books are excellent!! I own all three and I hope to be able to own more (yes that’s a hint to keep up the great work!). Thank you for reminding the world that true love does exist and that our loved ones are always with us waiting for us to join them.” --Michelle Gray
“I wanted to say how much I enjoyed your book, The Last Valentine. I could not put it down. This is the type of book I enjoy reading and I have read thousands of books as that is my hobby. I am now starting Ticket Home. I have a book collection of over three and a half thousand books in my library. All types and from many different authors. Keep up the good work and I will be looking for your next book after Ticket Home.” --Jackie Sibley
Dear Mr. Pratt – Clearly by accident at my local library did I discover your writings. I’m thinking now that some unknown force drew me to them. After reading The Last Valentine, Ticket Home, and The Lighthouse Keeper I am anxiously awaiting the reopening of my library on Monday to search for another of your wonderful books. Thank you, not only for giving us books we simply cannot put down, but for honoring those millions of World War Two heroes who so richly deserve it! Patty L. Anderson
“This last week has been very difficult for me and your book has certainly inspired me. The next time I read your book it won’t be at work. Even though it is my own business I had to explain to customers why I had tears in my eyes. It is a good advertisement for your books though. I shall have to obtain your other books. I’m sure they will also be a blessing as this one was. Thank you for sharing your talent. A job well accomplished.” --Judy Wade
“You are the first author I have ever written to, to say, ‘I loved your books’. I first picked up, The Lighthouse Keeper and after that had to have the other two. Your books are now being passed around all my friends and their first comment ‘A man wrote this!’ I do not usually buy a romance written by a man, they just don’t do it right. But in your case, they are wonderful! Just wish I had another one to read. Just finished the Ticket Home. Thank you for writing those wonderful books. I look forward to your next one. Could you make it soon?” --Karen Vasquez
"This was the first time I have ever read one of your books. I chose The Lighthouse Keeper. I must tell you that I was in tears with the first chapter. The last chapter I had to put down two or three times and wipe my eyes and gather my composure to finish this book. Any author who can bring that much emotion from me is a winner. I look forward to your new book!" --Marsha B.
Dear James -- Your feelings and compassion are so well expressed through the characters...when I read The Last Valentine I was hooked on your storytelling. Said to myself I need to read another of this man's books. I recently finished Ticket Home and again the joy and tears over took me. I especially appreciate the way you express details and history without being "over wordy." As the reader, I can put myself right there in that place and time. To you James--Keep up the good work! I've cherished every word you've written! Sincerely, Marcia Black
Dear Mr. Pratt -- I just listened to your book [The Lighthouse Keeper unabridged] on audio tape while traveling across state with a Vermont courier company. I have to say, your book was gripping! every aspect of this book was outstanding and one of the best love stories I've ever read or listened to. INCREDIBLE! You are a master of telling a solid love story. I look forward to reading more of your work. I sincerely appreciate your literary talent. Keep up the inspiring work! -- Steve Robinson
I just wanted to write you to thank you for the many hours of JOY I have had while reading your novels. I just finished Ticket Home and loved it! My favorite book of yours thought is The Last Valentine. You are a wonderful writer and I can't wait until your next book comes out! -- Lisa Padilla
GREATEST GENERATION
“I have just finished your truly wonderful book, “Ticket Home.” It is hard to believe that you were not there with us in that horrible War, your verbal picture is nearly perfect. I am 80 years old and the memories were beginning to fade. However, the book allows me to live it all again, as if it were only yesterday.” --Kay Penrod
Hello Mr. Pratt—I have just finished reading Ticket Home. It was one of the best books I have ever read. I can relate to this story as I was in the Philippines during the war. I got there after the fall of Bataan as a replacement in the 32nd Infantry Division. You are now on my “MUST READ” author’s list.
Sincerely – Duane from Michigan
Dear Sir: Thank you for such a lovely book, “The Lighthouse Keeper.” I really enjoyed it, finishing it today. It’s my neighbors. We buy and exchange books with each other. Need Kleenex with it, but still wonderful. Sincerely a young 94 year old. –Nita North
What a wonderful story of love for a father never known by this sensitive man. I feel so honored to have made a small difference. A recent (Jan. 2002) email. Read on:
Mr. Pratt: I just finished reading Ticket Home. Wow, what a great book! My dad was Clyde Huddleson, who was an officer commissioned in the Marines, taking his training in San Diego, where I was born. He was sent to the Philippines and my mother and I joined him soon after my birth. We lived in the Philippines, near or in Manila for approximately 2 years. At the time that it appeared that the Japanese were possibly going to attack the Philippines, my mother and I left on either the last or one of the last ships to leave the Philippines before the Japanese attacked the Philippines. My dad was eventually captured, imprisoned and died.
My mother and I have had just glimpses into what happened to him and what he endured during his capture, imprisonment and eventual death. We have been told he was in and endured the Bataan march, that he was captured at Corregidor (which would seem inconsistent with being in the Bataan march as those appear from your book to be those captured at Bataan). We do know he was held in Japanese prison camp(s) for the duration of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. We where told when the Americans retook the Philippines, he, along with other prisoners, we put in Japanese ships, perhaps the "hell ships" you describe, to be transported out of the Philippines. While on board the Japanese ship, it was apparently attacked by American bombers (it was not marked as a POW ship). We were told that his legs were broken and because of his emaciated condition resulting from his imprisonment and mistreatment (he went into the service weighing around 200 pounds and when he died couldn't have weighed more than 110 pounds), he died on the ship. His body, along with other American prisoners that died on that ship were dumped in a heap on some island. Later the pile of bodies were discovered by the returning Americans and they were probably skeletons when discovered. We were told that he was identified by his wedding ring. I am told there is a commemorative plaque for him at Arlington. That's all I know. I've never gone to Arlington nor have done anything else to discover what happened to my dad's body/remains. Nor, for that matter, ever really tried to determine what happened to him during those terrible times in the Philippines. I never knew my dad and only have some pictures and memorabilia from his past. As such, he has been only someone I've been told about and never has had any emotional connection with me. Not until I read your book and began to feel what he must have gone through. For the first time in my life (I just turned 63) I mourned the loss of my dad. I also want to find out more about him and what happened to him while captured and imprisoned in the Philippines and eventually killed. I want to know where his body is buried. The stories my mom was told came from people that were with and knew my dad, but the stories were from those who would have seen my dad or knew what happened to him over brief periods of time. Probably those former buddies are dead. My mom is 87 and is suffering Alzheimer's so she can't be of any help. Do I contact the Marines to get more information about his history in the Philippines, especially where he was captured and imprisoned and more information about his death and where he is buried. Could they tell me where he was stationed and if the buildings that were there where my dad would have served in are still there or not. Are there other sources for this information? Your book suggests "Recommend Readings" can be found at your website, but that's not a category I found to click into and find what you recommend. Because of your book, I want to know more about my dad so I can know my dad as the person that he was and know what happened to him so I can feel what he may have felt and mourn his loss. If I can find out where he is buried, I would like to go there. Thank you for your wonderful book and what it has done to and for me. Clyde Huddleson
“I have just finished reading Ticket Home and loved it. I finished it over the memorial weekend. It was a very touching story. It gave me some things to really think about. You forget about what happened to our boys in the Philippines. People seem to always remember Pearl Harbor. My father in law was in WWII and has told us many stories. I want to just thank you for a story that touched my heart. I am now going to read The Last Valentine. I’ve already read The Lighthouse Keeper. That one made me cry. I will be looking forward to many more books of yours to read. I hope you will have a new book out soon.” --Debbie Sweeney
Dear Mr. Pratt, Never wrote to an author before. I just finished reading Ticket Home. What a beautiful story. I couldn’t put the book down. I am now reading The Lighthouse Keeper and will also read The Last Valentine. My husband fought in North Africa and Italy during World War Two. He is gone now, but I understand what our boys went through. I am recommending your books to all my friends. Thank you for listening to me and I am glad I found your books in our library. --Sincerely, Mary Montalto
“I read with interest about all the goings on in the Philippines during WWII! I had no idea all that happened there! Somehow history classes in school skipped over what you described and I know only what my parents told me and in school we learned mostly about the Jew's plight. Thanks for an informative, enlightening and entertaining story!” --Dorothy O’Claire
From a WWII Veteran who touching comments about his father’s generation:
“I just finished your book “Ticket Home” and thought it was wonderful! I finally found a true love story not filled with smut, but the real love as God intended. I was able to relate very well with your story and had served in the Philippines in WWII as a young man. I also saw action previously in the North Atlantic and later at Okinawa. I was touched and flattered by your reference to my generation as a great generation. Tom Brokaw also says that. I think the generation of my father was equally great, maybe even more so.
I take the case of my father, and he was not unique. He came to the U.S. as a two year old from Italy. He only attended school till the 5th grade, yet he could read a book from cover to cover and would read the newspaper completely. Realize, he had no help from home as his parents couldn’t help him; till the day they died they couldn’t speak a word of English more or less read or write the language. Bet he did have an overwhelming desire to become Americanized.
He fought WWI (and I fought WWII); his generation led us out of the Great Depression; his generation helped build the “small towns” of America and asked only to be treated as “Americans.” His generation came to these shores “for the opportunities America offered” - not for welfare. He left me with a priceless heritage I will always treasure.
But to get back to you and your book. I finished Ticket Home yesterday and today hurried to the local library to take out The Last Valentine and The Lighthouse Keeper. I hope they are just as good. – They will be!! Please write more books and please don’t change your style or the message you strive to convey to the readers.”
--Ray Nepolitan (WWII Veteran)
From the daughter of a WWII Marine
Mr. Pratt: This evening I finished reading Ticket Home. I was wonderful! I had previously read The Lighthouse Keeper (it made me cry) so I was anxious to read another book by you. My Dad (my hero) was a US Marine, enlisteing in 1939. He fought on Guadalcanal with the 1st Marine Division, as well as other places. He never talked about the war when my sisters and I were little, even when we asked him point blank, "Did you ever kill any Japanese?"
I think it was still just too fresh for him. My Dad stayed in the Corps on active reserve until he retired, at which time he attained the rank of Major. He died in 1995. In the 15 years or so prior to his death, he began to talk to us about his experiences during WWII. It can still bring tears to my eyes remembering his stories of what those men and women endured. His philosophy was he had a job to do, he was trained to do it, and he did it!!
However when he told us about the lack of supplies, food, etc. and how they survived for weeks at a time on a "wheel of cheese wrapped in linen" that floated to shore from another ship, it boggles the mind! I am probably rambling but had to write to you to let you know I feel exactly as you do about those heros of that generation.
I read your "Afterword" in Ticket Home, and I knew I had to write to you and let you know that yes, there are those of us children from that generation who were raised to be respectful, to love our country unconditionally, to work hard for what we want, to be loyal and proud of our heritage. Again...THANK YOU for your writing! I actually gained a deeper insight into the war in the Philippines. If not for heroes like Norman, Lucian, and MY DADDY, we'd all be speaking Japanese! (Oh, by the way, you made me cry in this book too!) --Sincerely, Elinor Turner Bright
“I was born after WWII, and without any living relative taking part in it, to talk to me about it. Plus the void in my education about it, I had little or no knowledge of the traumas and tragedies of this time, of this war. What a great job you have done in weaving this most important time in our country into this most recent book of yours, and although I don’t think it will make me want to pursue this war in print, it has caused me to engage in a conversation 3 veterans of this war I my neighborhood, who I stop to talk to most frequently while out walking every day. Thanks for the history awareness lesson.” --Sandy Calkins
I am a school teacher and during my summer months, one of my joys is to read, read, read! A recent book I picked up at my library was your new Ticket Home. I truly enjoyed Ticket Home and could envision it being made into a movie! I appreciate your effort to instill in your readers the constant hope that we can rise above the sadness and cruelty of our society and that love can prevail! I wish Hollywood recognized that all of America does not desire or need constant doses of violence, profanity, nudity, and senseless cruelty. It is hard being a teacher when my students are bombarded by this daily, even in cartoon shows.
Respect, perseverance, kindness, and good manners are ideas foreign to most of my students. Unfortunately they are not children of the “greatest generation.” --Take care! C.J. Murray
Dear Mr. Pratt -- I loved your book The Last Valentine! I am now reading (1-02-2002) The Lighthouse Keeper. I have never written to an author before. Your books transport me to a beautiful place within myself. Have a wonderful year! I will be looking forward to more of your books! Sincerely, Kathleen Piacenza, Santa Fe, NM
Finished Ticket Home today, the 57th Anniversary of D-Day! Thank you for writing it! Now I must read your other love stories. And thank Tom Brokaw for recognizing the greatest generation and the great debt we owe them [veterans]. –Ella Akerman
Over the past weekend I finished reading Ticket Home. I must admit that at first it took me a little while to get into the story (I had read all of your previous books, so was familiar with your writing style.) and, just like you mentioned at the end of the novel, some people have asked you why you had to go into such detail about the war …but as I moved along through the chapters, I came to realize that you were teaching us a lesson in history about the infrequently mentioned “Bataan Death March,” and the events centered around it, and the dramatic (Cabanatuan) rescue….
I just wanted to thank you for making me realize that our recent past is also an important factor in our lives as well. I’m one of those “baby boomers” who essentially missed living through some of the important stuff. – Jill Keller
I just wanted to let you know that I finished your book Ticket Home and really enjoyed it. My father, who was 78, just recently died and stories like these always do good to help understand him and his journey in life a bit more. I actually found myself teary eyed quite a few times. This one touched my heart and I look forward to finding The Lighthouse Keeper. Keep up the good work. –Carinna Calloway
Dear Mr. Pratt -- "I just finished your novel, Ticket Home, and wanted you to know how deeply moved I was by the storyline, characters, and even your message at the end of the book! I have a much deeper understanding of war, patriotism, love, and the strength of the human spirit after reading this book. Never have I felt more heartfelt thanks to those fine Americans who endured the horrors and sacrifices of war in order to secure the freedoms we now enjoy and often take for granted. You are an extremely talented writer with a new adoring fan! God Bless! " Pam Bruneau
ON FAITH, HOPE, LOVE, and CHRISTIAN In writing I focus on the character and what he or she feels and believes. I seek to entertain while at the same time weave morals throughout the story in a compelling but not an obtrusive way. I never imagined there would be the wonderful outpouring and support from Christian readers everywhere. I truly appreciate each and everyone one of these generous and thoughtful readers! --James Pratt
"I have just finished "devouring" these two books [The Last Valentine and The Lighthouse Keeper] purchased only three nights ago. Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for writing a wonderful story that I could read without shame or embarrassment. In addition, the wonderful bonus of reading about my Lord, incorporated into the story as He should be known -- as an integral part of the lives of those who love Him.
"I'm heading to the bookstore tomorrow to purchase "Ticket Home." Please, please, keep writing. I've already recommended your books to others and was proud to do so. My very best regards," Sandra Rush
Dear Mr. Pratt-- "Wow! I plan to give this book as a gift to several people I know who will love the story! How wonderful to celebrate abstinence before marriage, fidelity, honesty, integrity...and the beauty of love. Jan Karon's delightful books about the Episcopal Priest who loves to share the saving power of Jesus Christ have also swept the nation! I believe her's and your writings show that there is indeed a market for the wholesome love story that rings more true than all the sex and profanity that is the usual fare in today's "literature ??"! I will keep you in my prayers that the Lord will continue to inspire your writings!" Sandi Danskin
"Dear Mr. Pratt, I just want to take a moment to thank you for your wonderful book, The Lighthouse Keeper. My girl friend loaned me her book and we both thoroughly enjoyed it! we both were SO glad that you kept the story clean and did not go off in to the filth that so many authors do. May you be blessed and keep up the writing as the Lord leads you!" Most sincerely, Tracy Vander Veen, Stockton, Ca.
"I have truly come to love reading again with your books of love, faith, and commitment! They have shown me that if life were easy then I would not get the true fulfillment that life has to offer and with every struggle there is a true and just reward. I’ve also gained renewed faith that if we are struggling that God can and will help us only if we ask."--Annette Vanboovan
"Have just finished reading your third book, TICKET HOME. I must say, I enjoyed it so very much, as I did your other two. It was so wonderful to read stories about such love, faith, courage, devotion.... I must say you have gone to the top of my Christian author list. May God bless you always," Mary J. Eurich
"I want to thank you for your books. I have really enjoyed them, not having to dodge horrible language and sex as is so rampant in so many books. Keep up the great work! God bless," Laurie Buel
This sweet lady really made my day on Jan. 19th, 2002: She writes:
"One of my hobbies is reading -- mostly fiction. I had never read a book authored by you until I read The Lighthouse Keeper. It takes me awhile to read a book which contains as many as 300 pages. I could not put this book down but when I did I had not lost the continuity of the story. (she goes on to tell of her "seaman" on a lighthouse [keeper] father) Just last week, much to my surprise I found The Last Valentine and I just finished reading it. It too was a beautiful story. Now if I can just find Ticket Home, I shall be very happy.
It is so hard to find books which have a good story with a spiritual message. So much of today's authors seem to dwell on the sexual part of one's life rather than the spiritual part. When I fifnished reading The Lighthouse Keeper I lent it to a friend of mine who is housebound with a terminal illness. She liked it so well that she called a friend who is a minister and told him how beautiful the story was.
She returned it and I intend to keep it among some of the books I have kept. Most of the time I can not afford a hardback so I go to used paperback stores and trade-in books. My husband and I are both on a fixed income so we have to watch those pennies. We both are 82.
Thank you for writing these two books. I know they will be around a long time and those who buy them shall keep them as I am doing. Sincerely, Mildred M. Hale
Dear Mr. Pratt -- "Well, I've been reading for over 35 years (ever since a little girl) and I have never been compelled to write to an author before now. I just finished your book entitled, The Lighthouse Keeper and just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed it. It was so full of hope and life. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful book. I will definitely pass it along. We all have tragedies in our life, but if we maintain steadfast in His love, there is always hope. Thanks again --" Kay Jensen
"Thank you for the love story [The Lighthouse Keeper] and the Christian views expressed in this book. The way these characters listened to the Lord in their experiences is inspiring and encouraging. This is the first of your books I have read and I have now found an author I will enjoy and I will be reading your other books as well. Thank you again and I thank God for the talent He gave you that is being used." Sincerely, Maryhelen Maynor
"Dear Mr. Pratt--I just want to thank you for the beautiful books you write. When I read The Last Valentine, I couldn't wait to share it with my mother, mother-in-law...and daughter. What surprised me was my daughter's reaction. She's only 25 and has never known any kind of real war. But she wept as she felt the emotions you portrayed so eloquently through your characters. The biggest "thank you" comes for your standards in writing. I can't tell you how I appreciate being able to share your books without hesitation or explanation about "just a few bad parts. I know the Lord will bless you for the work you do." Sincerely Kathy Burningham
“I just finished reading The Lighthouse Keeper. It was great just like The Last Valentine. Definitely, Hallmark Hall of Fame movie material. I really appreciate a real story, with real characters and an actual plot. The imagery of the light and Christ was wonderful.” --Lori Lewis
I just finished reading Ticket Home and it took me almost a day to get back to reality as I had become so emotionally involved in the story. Now I am looking forward to reading The Last Valentine and The Lighthouse Keeper and any future James Pratt books. Thanks for sharing your talent. Love and prayers, -- Dorothy Tate
An email from a new reader-friend as sent to his list of email friends:
“I would like to introduce to you, best-selling author – James M. Pratt. Go to his website at www.jmpratt.com and read about this fine Christian man and the works he has written. If you love to read, especially books that touch your soul and life you up, I would like to recommend you get a copy of “The Lighthouse Keeper” the next time you are at a bookstore. My next choice is going to be “Ticket Home.” I ‘loved’ The Lighthouse Keeper for a lot of reasons and I am sure you will to. Reminds me of “THE TORCH BEARER.” The hero is one who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark streets of life for men to see by. The saint is the man who walks through the dark paths of the world, HIMSELF a light.’ - and then a quote from a very famous person you know….. “Ye are the LIGHT of the world”… “Let your LIGHT so shine that they may see your good works and GLORIFY your father which is in heaven.” --Louie Gibson
“What a wonderful story teller you are and to have Jesus shinning back at me through the pages of your book has been wonderful!! I have never read any of your other works but was drawn to this book by an unseen force. That force being my Heavenly Father!!…That through your wonderful story they (the lost) will find their hope in HIM!!” --Carrol J. Patterson
“Just found out about your books, and just finished The Lighthouse Keeper and thoroughly enjoyed it. I appreciate a book that is a joy to read…no racy scenes, no bad language but a wonderful story and also a wonderful statement of your obvious Christian ideals.” --Joan Woods
“Being an avid lighthouse collector, I was drawn to your book. It seems a dumb reason to look at a book but………Jesus Christ is my personal savior and I believe god directs our life. I believe that God gave me your book. I have had my own personal tragedies in my life and have had a long journey with our God as my lighthouse.” --Kim Johnson
“I have just finished reading “Ticket Home,” and have never enjoyed a book as much as this one – not to find any detailed sex, vulgar language or my Lord’s name taken in vain on every other page was so wonderful. And the virtues of true love, honor, respect, etc, being stressed were just great. About the war chapters – they made me more appreciative of what those men and women went through – and so many giving their lives – to make this country what it is today with all the freedoms we enjoy. --Estelle B. Chapman
“After reading the title (Ticket Home) and looking at the outside cover, I proceeded in reading the inside cover. It sparked an interest in me. Needless to say that I did not even notice on the back cover of your book, that your writing of The Last Valentine was compared to that of Nicholas Sparks’, The Notebook. I am also a Christian and that is another reason that I loved your book so much. The continued reminders through out your story about ‘Keeping the Faith’ was such a refreshing change to so many of the writings of today…So many authors feel like they have to fill their books with sex and vulgar language to tell their stories and for some readers it can become offensive. Thank you for writing a book that truly shares our faith in a God that will see us through good times and bad.” --Nancy Harris
“I’m almost finished reading ‘Ticket Home’ and am really enjoying the little snippets of scripture, prayer and inspiration throughout. It certainly is a joy to read such novels without having to worry about language, sex, etc.” --Lynne G. Ross
"I just finished reading The Lighthouse Keeper. Having dried my tears, now I want to thank you for writing an inspiring and uplifting book. My heart was touched at the love and hope I found in its pages. Once I started I could not put it down. I think it is great that you can write a story [in today's world of questionable literature] of such sweet and tender love and still have eternal values of virtue, loyalty, faithfulness, and dedication.
Please keep writing these books! I plan to buy The Last Valentine as soon as I can. Thank you again for the most enjoyable, and more importantly, soul fortifying reading experience. I look forward to your next book! -- Leslie Whatcott
“James Pratt’s The Last Valentine, is a special love story that every person in love – or who hopes to be – should read and reread. I recommend it to all who hope to better understand the meaning of love.” Hartt Wixom (author When Angels Intervene to Save the Children)
YOUTH
I am amazed at the maturity in many of our young readers. I would never have thought that teens would read my books. Here’s just a sample of emails (teens never write letters) I’ve received.
“I bet I am your youngest fan! I am eleven years old and my Mom gave me The Lighthouse Keeper to read. It’s much better than Harry Potter. I’m in chapter nineteen now. It so sad. Bye for now.” –Caitlin Kulow
“I am fifteen years old and was considering suicide. I just picked up The Lighthouse Keeper and after finishing it I want to thank Peter O’Banyon and you for helping me change my mind!” -- Reader’s name withheld (James Pratt’s request) from Ohio.
“Thanks for such a wonderful book (The Last Valentine)! I loved it! I learned a lot about love, commitment and faith. I bought a copy for my cousin. Could you autograph it for her? Thanks again!” --Katy Graham, 17 year old High School student.
“Hi. My name is Grace Huang and I am 15 years old. I bought your book [The Last Valentine] at a drug store in 1999 and since then have read it 7 times. I loved the book so much because it touched my heart…I have recommended the book to my high school’s summer reading program and right now it’s among one of the books on the list. I truly loved your book The Last Valentine. It is the first and only book that’s brought tears of sadness and joy. Thank you for your masterpiece!” -- Love always, Grace Huang
Dear Mr. James Michael Pratt -- "I absolutely loved your novel Ticket Home! I love to read and I read just about everything I get my hands on, but this novel was definitely one of the best I have ever read! I live on a small island in the Azores Territory of Portugal) with my father (in the Air Force), mother and my five sisters. My sister, Kimberly, heard about your book and I managed to borrow it from a friend, and I finished it in two hours! I could not put it down! Never have I read a novel so intriguing as Ticket Home.
"I wish I had a copy of your work of art, so that I could read it over and over again as much as I like! Although I am only a 14 year-old freshman in high school, I really appreciate your talent! I hope you never stop writing! I hope you will write another book soon!" -- Julie Andersen
From the author : Every now then a family member actually reads their local author’s book! I don’t know about other writers, but when I finish a novel I usually hear, “That’s nice sweetheart,” or “Hey, cool Dad,” or “Uncle Jim writes books?” Here’s from my 17 nephew Jared Gamble—bless his heart.
“I loved your book Ticket Home. Since I finished it, are you going to send me a copy of your next one? Please!!! Well, anyways, I thought I’d let you know I finished it and enjoyed it, especially near the end of the book. I look forward to reading your new book.”
--Jared Gamble. (This boy will be in my Will.)
